Why I Love College Radio …

paperclip

What’s not to love about college radio? Listen long enough, and you will hear something for everyone – new music, old favorites and everything in between. Punk, pop, reggae, jazz, hip hop, classical – you name the style of music, you will hear it on a college radio station.

Corporate programmers, “messages from our sponsors”, heavy rotations, and Top 40 hits are out. Entertaining DJs, quirky public service announcements, the occasional bit of “dead air” - all of these elements and more are blended together in a commercial-free listening environment to create, in essence, the world’s largest iPod shuffle, constantly entertaining, surprising and delighting. How cool is that?

Did I mention no commercials?

Our favorite college radio station (indeed, our “house channel”) is KALX 90.7 FM, broadcasting “from the basement of Barrows Hall on the UC Berkeley campus”. Since we listen so often, it seems as if the DJs are family … although we love them all, some of our favorites over the years include Disco Shawn, Sex 14s, Queen Bee, Tiger Lily, Matthew Africa, Jesse Luscious, The Good Foot and Dance Party Fife.

We’re fortunate that our office is located within range of the KALX signal. For those of you who don’t live in our area, you can listen to KALX on the internet at http://kalx.berkeley.edu/listen.htm.

At Row Eleven, our goal is also to entertain, surprise and delight our customers. While we believe that Ricardo’s wines stand on their own, try tuning in KALX the next time you pull the cork on our 2006 Row Eleven Santa Maria Pinot Noir – you’ll enjoy the experience.
